Got a call from my wife Sunday afternoon while I was at work, full scale panic mode. Peebles, our Yorkie, had escaped the backyard. Thanks to two good samaritans, one in helping my wife, who was in panic mode and the nice person who found Peebles, and took her to the shelter. Even though on Sunday we were lucky that shelter was open. a phone call and we were made aware she was there and we could pick up in the AM. The staff were oh so helpful in reassuring my wife and looking after our little adventurer. Thank you all so much!!
We adopted our very first fur baby from here, and the experience was wonderful. He’s the absolute sweetest little boy, and we couldn’t be happier. The staff were incredibly helpful and guided us through everything we needed to know as first-time pet owners. Their support made the whole process smooth and reassuring. Highly recommend!
Our family had the pleasure of adopting Benson from Oshawa Animal Shelter. It's been about 2 weeks now. He is full of energy. Enjoys long walks and tug of war. He is friendly with others and loves to chase after squirrels. He's doing well with adapting. Been a good dog overall. Likes to cuddle even if he's the biggest acting lap dog.
I recently participated in the Doggy Day Out program offered by Oshawa Animal Services, and it was an incredible volunteering experience. While I’m not currently in a position to foster or adopt, this program provided a meaningful alternative and it gave me the chance to help make a dog’s day brighter while they wait for their forever home. I’ll admit, it was emotionally challenging at times because I wished I could do even more. But overall, it was very rewarding experience that I would recommend to any animal lover looking to spend their day with a pet in need. Photos are of Kurt, currently in the shelter and ready to be adopted. He’s a sweet and playful dog and would be great addition to any household!
My husband and I brought an injured baby bunny in this morning, June 26, that we found on our front lawn. The 2 women that greeted us at reception were so amazing and compassionate with the bunny and me. (I am an animal lover and was a mess). They even called to let me know afterwards that they had found a “recovery wildlife shelter” that would take it in and care for it back to health. I will be making a donation because of the amazing work of these city employees. Thanks so much !! Kim and Paul
I don't think that it's possible for me to speak highly enough of the people that do the amazing job that they do here! I'd like to specifically shout out Kathy & thank her for everything...seriously if you're in the position to support these guys please do it because the service they provide is a Godsend!
Two months ago, I volunteered here and it was not a great experience. The way I was treated was very strange... I felt more like an inconvenience to the staff. Considering it's my time and it's free, I unfortunately never came back the next day. I had even called the managers line for 2 days and no answer. My goal was to eventually fall in love with an animal and adopt the right way as well.. but I ended up getting my 3rd cat off Kijiji instead. I heard there is a new manager at this place now and I hope they treat their volunteers better and organize their time.
