My daughter has been at Woodcrest going on 4 years and we absolutely love this school. Shes excelled tremendously in her academics. Definitely want her to stay here until she cant anymore
This school actually sucks so, so,so much. I came from a Markham school for which I was bullied but in all honesty I much rather would have stayed there then have to endure 2 years of frustration. My class was execelled academically due to our amazing teacher Christopher Visconti, whom still works at the facility and noteably does not allow his emotions control his behaviour towards his teaching, patience, and attitude towards students. I had left this school in the year 2017, as my sister had to unfortunately attend the school until the summer of 2018, for which was my reference to the terrible staff with few exceptions. The amount of times I've had to comfort my sister after school due to her overall frustration towards the staff and few students is phenomenal. I've heard continuous times that the students will act out of anger and often waste time, educational opportunities, and nessiary school supplies, which I have first hand witnessed at this school myself. For the past hour I have held back continuing to write this review, and instead spoke about my sister, another whom attended, and my own experience she at this "school". There's so many unbelievable situations I am just now learning about, that it would take very long to type out every scenario. The younger students are not condemned by the staff and are instead "let loose" to be free and cause havoc through the facility. Multiple lock downs have occurred during the school year due to the teacher allowing the students to take out their anger on others and the school itself. Most staff would not at all treat the students as equals, but instead would place themselves on pedestal and act like they were more deserving of respect regardless of the fact that every human is equal. The teachers would bully students specfically targeting few students. They wouldn't listen to reason, and other students whom experienced a situation first hand, but would instead enforce their own judgment to determine the best way of addressing the situation, regardless of the victims input. Students would continuously bully others for being "different", and the teachers would give them a warning and do no further investigation and wouldn't put in effort to educate or create actual consequences. I myself have heard multiple racial slurs and stereotyping such as: the N word, words and actions degrade those of Muslim decent, words and actions degrading those of asian/south Asian decent, words and actions degrading those of African decent, Mexican decent, Jewish decent, etcetera. Homophobic and transphobic slurs and stereotyping was also VERY commonly used against other students and staff. I myself, as well as other students have found many hazardous materials on the school property, such as, Syringes, condoms, cigarettes, and dead animals. The schools overall maintenance is very low standard as the air smells of body odour and uraine. There is no circulation of fresh air throughout the facility. Multiple students have overheard staff and janitorial staff members speaking about "mice droppings behind the fridge" and other occasions. Overall this school is what's expected of Oshawa I should've never left Toronto.
Good Public School
I went to this school since grade 5 and now recently graduated I have looked back at my school years attending here I dont have much fond memories to talk about. First off I have never went to a school where racial and homophobic slurs are yelled back and forth in a classroom without a teacher stopping them and educating them about how hurtful they are. I was one of the only black students in my grade and had heard multiple times the n word and other stereotypes said to my face such as are you going to steal my stuffetc. I have reported a few incidents but no all since I was too scared of the out come if I was to call out a few of the students since they have a record of fighting people who bother them and getting away with it with only a slap on the wrist. And its not only my grade that has these such problems since near the end of my last school year I had learned through one of my friends younger relatives who also attended this school that their entire class says the n word in front oftheir teacher without any consequences delt in them. Trans kids or anyone thats not straight were the but if the jokes among classes since the teachers didnt not help us understand those topic but let the kids continue with tromenting kids because there different. I saw a person in my class break into tears cause someone said that being gender neutral makes you mentally impaired but no one comforted them or even talked about the issue. Having lack of representation helped further keep this ignorance. every year black history months was ignored or you got to read a picture book about segregation and nothing else. Im pretty sure that first native was the only properly teached since the vice principal ms. Coal has a strong interest in the culture. Thus shows that none of the teacher would much rather talk about the Winter Olympics then how POC(people of colour) and the LGBTQ+ communities were and still are poorly treated. As I entered grade 8 I was told I would have more freedom and space to grow into myself but sadly that was a lie my teacher did not help in any way she let her emotions control how she taught her class and talk to the students she also would never stick to her schedule forcing us to miss MANY math periods and mfor her to instead talk about her social life this made us miss 2 math units.there was also many time that we worked days-weeks on projects but most of the time she would ether not tell us to hand it in or present it or if we did present she would just scroll threw her Facebook. She would repeatadly tell us how poor the school was which made us feel lower then other schools. Few time some students heard her talk bad about other teachers and students and even once a peer heard her called a student a lil r*tard to another teacher but lucky she had moved but this just shows that they let any type of person to teach thereI have a lot more to say but its hard to write out my frustrations to this school trust me their are many more things wrong with the school and If i was a parent especially I with a POC or LGBTQ+ child or anyone I wouldnt let them step a foot into this school. If I could I would give it no stars
