First time eating here and last time eating here, First, service isn't good, didn't get any greeting when I walked in, had a weird look by one of the workers there. Second when it was my turn to order, I question one of their food on the menu and the lady answered me like I was suppose to know... Just because Im black and look Caribbean, you think I'm Jamaican? And third, there's some confusion when I was ordering my food being a small champ oxtail, the lady told me I'll get cowsola with it, though because I had take out, mine was not in the bag when I got home ready to enjoy it. Now when it comes to food, rice with beans was okay, personally I think there's not enough flavor, though the oxtail, that's on me not knowing it's mostly bones. It's was fine I guess, but overpriced.
Ordered jerk chicken with gravy, rice and peas and a beef patty for lunch. Beef patty was good quality and tasty but everything else had very little flavour. Everything seemed to be cooked right and texture felt authentic etc but the taste was really lacking flavour. This is rare for Caribbean food in my experience and I’ll try once more maybe but based on this first order, this isn’t a go-to.
Ordered different things in the last couple of weeks & was not disappointed. Great food & impressed by the large choice of items on the menu! Customer service - friendly & accomodating.
Oxtail tastes different nowadays, too much gravy. Fried chicken stale. This place is going downhill and over-priced for the qualityof food. I won't be back and will be going to the other major West Indian restaurant in Oshawa.
I ordered the Chicken Roti (through Uber Eats). I had to recook the meal to add the necessary spices. The meal I received had zero flavour. I've ordered from this restaurant quite a few times (Jerk Chicken or Chicken Roti) and the quality of the delivered meals has steadily gone down. I won't be ordering from there anymore as it's not worth the price.
They charged me a side order of curry goat for the same price as a combo. I went there and asked to switch it out. They said they cannot do that. I’m going to add a picture of what they gave me and the price of what they gave me. Tell me if this is OK? This side order was $17.50! The combo is the same price as this side they serve soup in this container at the price of 10 or $13. This is ridiculous. I opened the container and see how much meat is in there and it is pure gravy not even enough meat. I am upset. And a reminder this side of gravy basically is $17.50.
Tried Champs Caribbean Restaurant for the first time and was thoroughly impressed. The rice and peas were perfectly cooked with just the right blend of seasonings—flavourful and authentic. The oxtail was tender and well-prepared, and I appreciated the extra gravy that came with the order. While it would’ve been great to see some lima beans added for a protein boost (a rare addition at most places), the dish still hit the mark. The steamed vegetables—mainly cabbage and peas—made a great pairing with the meal, offering a light and satisfying side. I also ordered a side of plantain, which was ripe, soft, and sweet—exactly how it should be. Too often, places serve underripe plantains that end up dry, but Champs got it just right. Portion sizes were generous, the food tasted freshly made, and it wasn’t greasy at all. Overall, a solid experience with authentic Jamaican flavour. I’ll definitely be ordering again!
