We stayed at the Best Western Plus Durham because it is close to a GO station. We were attending an event in downtown Toronto, and did not want to drive/park. Being out-of-town meant less expensive accommodation and cut significant travel time in our journey to and from Ottawa.The hotel is clean and comfortable. The architecture is a bit odd. Navigating around inside the building was not dead-easy.Don't count on driving to the GO station. We checked it out. For our 4:00pm departure for Toronto, there were exactly zero parking spots. We could have walked the 1.5km, but the day was windy, so we took a cab.
Had a great stay. Friendly staff and awesome breakfast. Not continental which is nice. Walls are thin. Heard people coming down the hall but wouldn't fault the hotel for that. Happens everywhere. It was a Saturday night. I'd stay again.
This hotel was just not up to par. The rooms were damp and dirty. I do believe they were "surface" clean but in dire need of a deep cleaning. The air conditioner leaked all over the carpet. Maintenance made a "show" of repairing but the room smelled of wet carpet and old shoes and air conditioner never functioned properly for the 5 days we were there. Maid service spilled a cup of coffee in my suitcase and never mentioned it. The towels were thread bare and rough and I would not use for rags for cleaning in my home. The hallways and doorways continually smelled like pot and cigarettes. The front desk and the continental breakfast attendant were very helpful.
I have reposted my review today with the appropriate rating. I did not give the correct rating the first time when we stayed at the Best Western on May 12, 2018. Thanks.My sister, her daughter and spouse and myself shared a room at this hotel. The room was nice and bathroom very clean. The front desk was very friendly and offered to call us a taxi when we said we were going to a wedding. Upon our return to the hotel after midnight, I wanted a cup of tea and the person at the front desk opened the kitchen to allow us to get one. At breakfast time, we were really impressed by the selection. We would stay here again and recommend the hotel to others.
We had a wonderful stay! The rooms were clean and fresh. The customer service was great. Ravi not only brought our credit card to the room when we forgot it, but he also went outside to quiet down some kids who were being rowdy after midnight. In the morning, David offered some great advice concerning how we might spend our day. I would highly recommend!
